Does anybody know how to program PLC as a network bridge? This is important for connecting two different networks.

Thanks for any upcoming responses.

We really need to get some additional information in order to be able to offer some assistance.

1. What PLC equipment is being used ?
2. Which protocol of the PLC is being used ?
3. Is bi-directional communication required ?
4. What is the throughput requirements ?

Why would you want to use a PLC as a network bridge when network bridges are common place? SST Technologies(http://www.sstech.on.ca/) for example has bridges for just about every protocol. Some other web sites that might
have a bridge for you are:

http://www.hilscher.com/
http://www.synergetic.com/
www.lantronix.com

If you are bound and determined to use the PLC, you will have to have some language in the PLC that you can write the network drivers in, physical communication ports that match up to the networks you are bridging, and the expertise in the network protocols to write the drivers. Sound like a whole lot of work to me.

These opinions are my own and are offered on the basis of Caveat Emptor.

Allen Bradley has the ControlLogix which makes it really easy to bridge/gateway without a processor. But if you're looking at others it would pay to be a little more specific, some may require mapping an area of memory to perform this. I have also used a Giddings & Lewis, mapping to memory and then out on Modbus, and now
looking at also adding AB DH+ to it.

The previous respondees are correct, it is important to specify the PLC type. I will mention that Schneider's Premium PLC has this capability built in if you want to bridge/gateway from one or more up to four networks you can do this quite easily. The networks can FIP, Ethernet or any of the other XWAY networks.

Thanks for the question.
The PLC Bridge would grab data from several Telemecanique TSX 7 model 40 PLCs via Mapway network and send it to MMI station via any common industrial network (like Ethway).

Thanks for the responses.

The PLC bridge will be a Telemecanique TSX 7 serie 40 PLC connecting Mapway network and Ethway network. The PLC bridge will grab data from another Telemecanique TSX 7 PLCs via Mapway network and send it to MMI station via Ethway network.

Why don't you check the Northcom equipment and/or get in touch with them.
I am using that lot and works fine.
their address is "northcomms.com" or something similar
