In response to your request for PLC info for your "PLC's in history" college project, you may find Moody & Morley's book "The Technology Machine (How Manufacuturing will work in the Year 2020)" interesting and informative. Morley was the inventor of the PLC. He talks about not only the future of manufacturing, but also the early days of the PLC. ISBN 0-684-83709-9.
