Allen-Bradley has an in-house software tool that can convert PLC-3 to PLC-5 format. We could not locate a conversion tool that could be purchased.

This can then be imported into ControlLogix with the tools provided with the RSLogix 5000 software. We are in the process of converting all our PLC-3 hardware to ControlLogix.

Contact your local Allen-Bradley Office or your distributor to help with the PLC-3 to PLC-5 conversion.

We ran into problems since our PLC-3's used RS-232 communications to connect to our Distributed Control System. The ControlLogix 5550- Controller only has one serial port.

Only from a PLC 2 to a 5 and then to ControlLogix.....Nothing for the PLC 3 although there are a few outfits that do PLC 3 - PLC 5 conversions.

Our company has developed a software able to convert a PLC-3 program to either a PLC-5 or ControlLogix program. This is a proprietary program so we cannot sell it. However we can supply a quotation for the conversion of a program
by our specialist. We already did 5 jobs (paper machine (including an interface with Bailey DCS), CLO2 bleaching plant, cement plant and a sawmill all with the use of our software and the result (start-up time very quick) is great. Two of those five applications included redundant PLC-3.

Our company (Javlyn) has been doing PLC-3 conversions for several years. We have a large number of successful conversions under our belt. We currently have a service to convert directly to a ControlLogix Platform. Typical conversion rates are 98-100%. Anyone interested can drop me an email at [email protected].
