What could be responsible for a Gas Turbine frame 6, Power Generation (LOAD) & Compressor Pressure Discharge, CPD turns down with increase in Grid Frequency above certain point (say 50.80Hz to 51.5Hz)?

With the same ambient temperature condition, considering all ramifications and operating condition. Though, the design frequency is 50Hz, but the grid frequency is unstable (not constant and no control to stabilize it)

Oluwafemi Ogundaisi,

We are still waiting on feedback from the previous post, about the resolution to the loud bangs and flames coming from the exhaust of the gas turbine.

This newest post has been covered on control.com many times before: it's related to droop speed control. If a GE-design heavy duty gas turbine is operated at Part Load (less than Base Load) without PreSelected Load Control enabled and active when the grid frequency increases the Speedtronic will reduce the fuel to the gas turbine to reduce the amount of torque being applied to the generator to reduce the amount of load being carried by the generator.

An increase in grid frequency means there is an excess of generation compared to the amount of load on the grid. It is a design characteristic of droop speed control for a unit operating at Part Load to reduce its output when the frequency of the grid with which it is connected increases.

Please write back to the other thread with the resolution to the issue (presuming the issue has been resolved).

CSA,

Thanks for hour great efforts here and contributions.

On the other issue (bang and flame emanated scenario) investigation still on going. We want to open the the compressor and turbine section now. I will definitely get back to control.com about our findings.

Kindest regards.
