Can we use pneumatic air to pressure test up to 50 kg/cm2. if not why?

 

Hi there,

Air or gas is never used for pressure testing for the simple reason that there will be a big bang if your equipment fails during testing. When you use water and there is a failure the water will just make a small whoosh and starts leaking out.

Use a normal balloon and blow it up and then stick a needle in it and see what happens. Now fill the balloon up with water and stick a needle in it again and see the difference in effect.

Same thing will happen with heavy duty industrial equipment pipes and vessels, just much bigger.
