PROFIBUS cable in PVC conduit

Dear Industry Experts,

We are planning to run PROFIBUS cables for our MOVs through PVC pipes in the concrete. Is it fine or we must use grounded steel conduit instead? I think it is better but is it a MUST?

By the way, these are PROFIBUS DP cables, is it the same for PROFIBUS PA as well?

Thanks,
Hamid

Hello hamid;

Profibus-DP and Profibus-PA cables are different. Actually Profibus-PA cable has the same specifications as Fieldbus Foundation cable. For standard PA cables, we use either Siemens 6XV1 830–5EH10 and 6XV1 830–5FH10 or Belden 3076F. If what you are looking for is PA buried cable, have a look here for an armored version: http://www.hitechcontrols.com/cables/data_network_bus/helukabel_bus_cables/fieldbus_with_armor.html

Siemens produces a specialized Profibus-DP armored cable for burying. Here is some information on it;

Profibus-DP: FC Underground Cable 6GK1 830-3FH10 The FC underground cable 6GK1 830-3FH10 meets the requirements of EN 50170, cable type A, with solid copper cores (22 gauge). The internal structure of the cable corresponds to that of the standard LAN cable, the electrical characteristics are identical. The cable has an additional PE outer sheath. The outer and inner sheath are bonded together so that the FC underground cable can be fitted with all SIMATIC NET PROFIBUS connectors after removing the outer sheath.
