Hi to all control enthusiasts,

I am working for a Sewage Treatment Plant in I and C department. The plant is under YOKOGAWA DCS (Centum 3000) and mostly Siemens PLC. The whole network is connected via Profibus. With these, can anybody give me a brief introduction on Profibus? Any related sites or reference is highly appreciated.

There is a very good introductory book on PROFIBUS called 'Catching the Process Fieldbus - An Introduction to PROFIBUS for Process Automation'. This book has been getting excellent reviews. Both, Jorg Freitag, Chairman of PROFIBUS International and Dennis van Booma, General Manager of PROCENTEC have recommended it. You can get a copy over that web at www.measuremax.ca.

Profibus module is nothing but a protocol and Its good for you if you read the General specification sheets of Profibus modules of both systems (Yokogawa and Siemens). I'm working on Yokogawa system and its general Specifications are easily available on net. moreover if you want to learn it in detail then read the manuals.

if you try to get learn this on internet then i hope that there will be lot of unnecessary information.

so stick with General specs and manual.

if you want any question regarding Yokogawa side then i m available for the support.

We just finished construction of a big sewage treatment plant in UAE using Yokogawa CS3000 R3 and PROFIBUS and we have lots of S7 and some other PLCs. PROFIBUS was used as standard interface for field instruments, electrical switchgear like VFD, DMPR, PMU's etc. as well as MOV's.
