Profibus PA segments allowable in EEx ia

Hi,

I am new in PROFIBUS PA, and I know that it is possible to have up to 10 devices per segment in an EEx ia area. My question is, how many segments can I have in this EEx ia area? If I want to have 300 devices, and all of them in EEX ia area, that means that I can have 30 DP/PA couplers.

Another thing that is not clear is: when should I use barriers, and when segment protectors and so on? In general I understand the PA principle, but if somebody could give me real examples, I will appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks it was very helpful.

I also found this formula on the Siemens hompage:
https://support.automation.siemens....rd&viewreg=WW&load=treecontent&subtype=133000

You can use the following formula for the theoretical maximum number of PA slaves per PROFIBUS master system (max. 125 DP slaves per master system):

* Ex version (hazardous area) of the DP/PA link (6ES7 157-0AD82-0XA0):
Number = 125 DP/PA links * 5 DP/PA couplers * 10 PA slaves (per DP/PA coupler) = 6250 PA slaves.
* Non-Ex version of the DP/PA link (6ES7 157-0AD82-0XA0):
Number = 125 DP/PA links * 64 PA slaves per IM157 = 8000 PA slaves.
