Im trying to write a program in visual basic 6 to send and recieve data through the serial port from pc to a Fanuc control. I'm new to the mscomm control and not having much luck. Need help bad. Any comments and previous experience with writing a communications program in VB would be appreciated.

If your Fanuc controller speaks Modbus/RTU, consider using an ActiveX control. Check out SMRX at "www.sapia-inc.com":http://www.sapia-inc.com for a Modbus/RTU Master ActiveX control. Your VB app will be communicating within minutes.

 

Comm control on VB is pretty simple and easy. You might be better off, to first use a Hyperterminal on the other end of the serial link, and do a
read/write operation and try out the various options.

this would give you a start to use the comm control, and is very helpful for starting.
