Good Afternoon,

How we can connect ProSafe-RS PLC with Centum CS3000 Yokogawa DCS with the help of Modbus RTU ALR121? We have AFV10D FCU and ANB10D ESB Node unit. At both ends do we need Modbus card, and what software packages do we need for Prosafe-RS? How do I/O modules and ESB couplers and processor modules communicate in SSC10D ProSafe safety Control Unit? Is this is internal or external connected?

Sanjib:

Very simple. You connect the ProSafe-RS on the control bus. The only problem that you have is that your models are different:
DCS: AFV10D supports Vnet/IP
ESD: SSC10D supports Vnet

You can use the serial interface: Modbus master on DCS (ALR111 or 121) and Modbus slave on ESD.

But this interface would defeat the purpose of getting an integrated SIS. To get real benefits of the integration between DCS and ESD (such as CS3000 and ProSafe-RS), you should use the control network. This way you would get the diagnostics (system status screen), time synchronization, alarm synchronization and many other features.

For integration, you would require something called Vnet/IP router: AVR10D, which is like a gateway between Vnet and Vnet/IP. Consult your local Yokogawa integrator/vendor office, and they should gladly help you.

Yokogawa released new version of ProSafe (SSC50S, SSC50D) and it supports VNet/IP. You can connect both CS3000 and ProSafe on the same VNet/IP network. But for segregation purpose, you may use Layer 3 switch to link two VNet/IP network segments.

From communication point of view, it is an integrated system, you need to define a tag list.

I just did one project with them.
