Quantum Comms with Nematron

We are trying to get communication established between a Quantum 113 02 PLC and a Nematron Powerview 1040T HMI. We are using the onboard modbus port and the RS232 PLC port on the Powerview. The cable we made up from the documentation is pin 2 - 2, 3 - 3, 5 - 5 and 7 and 8 is shorted on both sides. The system configuration in Viewbuilder is set up for modbus RTU, RS232, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, 9600 baud rate, even parity and the PLC station is station 1. Can someone point me in the right direction as to what we are doing wrong.

In the manual (the pdf file that comes with viewbuilder) they refer to Modicon Modbus, Modbus RTU and Modbus RTU Extend, but in the PLC Type setup in the system configuration only Modbus RTU, Modbus RTU Server and Modbus RTU(485 2W) is listed. What would the difference between these settings be?

Thanx
Hendri

Hi Hendri,

Two things:
Are you sure your cable is ok. Don't you need to cross 2 and 3. Connect RD to TD so 2-3, 3-2 and 5-5 (GND). 7-8 shorted is ok.

Secondly the Modbus address. If you have the processor in RTU mode via the switch on the front of the processor then the processor is in a so called bridge mode. This means that the Modbus address is the same as the Modbus Plus address which is set with the rotary switches on the back of the processor. Any settings made in the application only will be used if the switch on the front is set to the MEM position.

Hope this helps.
