Industrial Automation is one of the oldest embedded applications. I have read that DSP is an ideal choice as a processor. Though Micro controller are also considered as a processor choice.

As per industry standard, which type of processor is used?

 

Same as any other volume embedded application. The cheapest one that will do the job, especially now that you don't need to spend big bucks on a tool chain.

P.S. It looked like the last few I've opened were either unmarked or were ASICs or Gate arrays, no useful information. Perhaps the designers would care to enlighten us?
