Dear S,

We have a way if a point masquerading as ground is actually ground and whether neutral is connected to ground. Wire a 100 watt incandescent lamp with open wires (yeah use your judgment and be very careful), connect one end to phase and other end to ground. The lamp has to glow brightly, as if connected between phase and neutral. If the glow is weak, the ground-neutral or ground connection is bad. If it does not glow, either there is no earth or neutral is not connected to earth.

This method is usually good for wiring control panels at 230 VAC and other small machines.
