Re-Ranging of V-cone meter. We are using McCrometer's V-cone meter Model No:-VR02-25-B. The present range is 0 to 4.00 SMMCFD and DP-Range is 125 m-Bar. We want to increase the Range from 4.00 SMMCFD to 6.00 SMMCFD.

Please let me know what how to calculate DP-Range? will it be same as orifice calculation

i.e. the DP produce by sensor is propositional to the Flow through it.

Flow = Const x SQRT(DP)

Hi there,

You cannot re-range these v-cone meters yourself. Each meter has been sized and calibrated with a unique flow coefficient by the manufacturer for that specific application and you cannot change anything yourself. You need to stick to these original calibration and specs as per the unique data sheet for this meter only.

If the meter does not perform as per original installation specs there are various things you can check and repair yourself, but if your process data has changed and that is the reason why you need to re-range the meter, the only way it can be done is to remove it and send it to the original supplier for recalibration together with your new required process data.

We had a similar problem with our turbine meters that needed to be checked once a year to confirm their accuracy and the way we resolved this problem was to install two identical meters in parallel. We made up a spool piece for the one and remove it and send it to the manufacturer for calibration verification while the other one was on line in the plant. This way you will always have a reading from a accurate meter and still be able to do calibration verification check on each one once a year. This will also work if you need two different calibrations on the meter due to process data changes from time to time.

Hi,

As said, you can't re-range the V-Cone Flow Meter provided you have a Flow Calculation Software. This is due to the fact that V-Cone has its own flow co-efficient which you will need to re-run the flow calculation to find out the DP values. Contact McCrometer, Inc. or download their flow calculation program if available on website.
