We would like to replace old pneumatic system to DCS -with hot cutover.

Who can explain best way and steps to achieve this?
Wich companies can do this work from start to the end?

Verhappen, Ian

Many companies are making this cutover from pneumatic directly to Fieldbus as it will maintain control in the field capability with all the benefits of a fully integrated modern control system. Conversion is relatively simple since as a starting point for the design, the existing pneumatic loops (tubing) get replaced with fieldbus cabling. If you would like to learn more check out fieldbus.org or e-mail me at [email protected].

Most DCS suppliers can do this from end-to-end including the hot cutover since the majority of the work will be in parallel. You will likely have to take individual loops out of service to move from the present controller to the new positioner but otherwise it should be smooth.

Below is a recommendation from an experienced Project Manager perspective.

The first step is to identify which loops are to be converted as Hot Cutover and which are to be done during Turnaround. It is highly recommended to convert loops related to safety shutdowns during Turnaround. The loops in each category can be color coded on P&IDs and/or indicated by category in an instrument database. Then you can sort by Hot Cutover and get a list of all loops in that category. Once you have a list you'll want to work closely with Operations to schedule the loops based on production priorities and loop complexity.

Installing and testing as much as possible in advance is critical. I can go into more detail about Hot Cutover - if you want to send an e-mail about project specifics.

A source for comparison of companies that supply control systems and engineering services can be found in Control Magazine Reader's Choice survey. The magazine recently published Reader's Choice awards that list and rate the companies.

One of the companies in the Control survey is Emerson Process Management. The company typically supplies all phases of engineering services related to Hot Cutover including Conceptual design thru FEED (Front End Engineering Design) thru detail design, FAT (Factory Acceptance Test, Field commissioning, SIT (System Integration Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test),installation - partners with installation contractors, and supplies the engineers and technicians for actual cutover.

Emerson designs around the DeltaV control system with intelligent, self diagnosing Emerson field devices. The system also can monitor machine health of large rotating equipment such as compressors and large pumps, etc. A separate but integrated TUV certified process safety system also uses intelligent Emerson field devices.

There is a further description of Hot Cutover at http://www.emersonprocess.com/solutions/refining/domain_expertise/hot_cutover.asp.

Presently we are implementing Pneumatic system
to DCS switchover contract for Fertilizer industry & let me tell you , you need to plan for your engineering , only Revision " 0 " allowed with no risk involved whatsoever.

We have to plan for shutdown. please plan for
engineering properly.

Today' s marketing is most confusing in nature,
sometimes you feel they have achieved perpetual
