Remote I/O's and closed circuit information

Hello people. I am pretty much a newbie so please be gentle with me. I am in the process of deploying automating our plant using the S7-300. I plan to use some remote i/o's via profibus cable to reach the far away i/o's. I was wondering what is involved with remote i/o's. Does each remote anolog i/o card need a power supply and/or plc to communicate with it? From that, would I then communicate with the master PLC in the control room?

Another question I have concerns our pump. TO turn the pump on, there needs to be a closed circuit of 110V AC. When the circuit is opened, then the pump turns off. Is there a way I can open and close a circuit with a plain old analog input or output card? If not, then what special hardware do I require. Thanks.
