Role of Industrial Drives as Control System Components

we all know that "Drives in general are used to control the speed, torque, and position of motors and the devices that they move, often controlled by PLCs or other automation controllers. Since almost every automation system has parts that move and are controlled, it would be a long list of applications."

I want to know if drives are used as control system components or not. Can we call them control components??
