This is my first assignment in a huge project, I'm so afraid and too nervous to find a solution, I need your help choosing a suitable sensor and a suitable measuring (counting) device for measuring an rpm of a francis turbine with an expected range of 17000 rpm in order to display it on an lcd (that you can also give me a hint in choosing a suitable one) Thank you

????? Are you sure you don't mean 170rpm ?? The fastest hydro I've ever come across is 750rpm, 1MW Kaplan.

Usually speed is sensed via magnetic pickups on a toothed wheel.

yes sir I'm sure that it is 17000 rpm (17K) ... as for the magnetic pick ups ... could you please explain more ??
