We are trying to talk to several RS232 devices in substations. The RS232 devices just support VT terminal communication mode.

We are thinking of putting the RS232 devices to one RS485 buses.

So the RS232/RS485 converter should also provide an address ( added to each RS232 device ) to make what we want happen.

Is there such converter in the market ?

One such device (i.e., for addressable RS232) is StarBus,

and I'm sure there are many others, running on RS485, Ethernet, and other media.

This could also be done by a very low end Linux box with some custom programming, but I'd be surprised if ready-made solutions don't also exist.
