Hi,

we have installed new plc 5/60 enhanced version. from very start we are facing problems in shifts. whenever we try to access plc5 rslogix5 files , maximum times we face message of 'no matching files found' we simply search, browse the files that is on the desktop itself and upload the files before getting online. to educate all 50 staff on saving after editing was very tedious.

also we get messages like 'communication lost. retry?'. I have laid new cables still it persists.

some times i regret on upgrading from plc3/10 to plc5/60.

Check the Options tab and set the directory to where your PLC files are.

Assume you are running Ethernet? Check for collisions using Wireshark. Are you using a hub or switch??

If you are running Serial, lower the baud rate if the cable length is long.

And/or provide more info:)

No worries.. without assuming anything:

Start RSLinx, and confirm the driver is running for the PKTX card.
Do an RSWho to be sure the PLC shows up.
Start RSLogix5 and then open up the file you believe is in the PLC
Click on Who active go online
RSWho will show up, and click on the PLC
A dialog box may show up here saying no file found.
Hit Browse, and navigate to the directory where you opened up the file in the first place
If there are matching 'ID's' then the files that do will show up in the empty box below

If it doesn't then......

The matching ID's have been corrupted (which can happen when the program is downloaded with another computer or program file image)

You may want to do a compare first..

With the original program export the documentation first.

Then click Who Active go online, select the PLC and select go online now
Import the documentation just exported
Save the file as the original filename in the original directory,

And problem solved!! Hopefully!!:)

Under options you can set the default directory where RSLogix looks for and checks for files set this to your default directory .. but the only thing I can say is to create a procedure that create deliberatcy ( a word???)...

Like be deliberate !! do this then do this then do this.... sometimes flexibility isn't what its cracked up to be...

Its all about not uploading a file willy nilly... open the file, upload and save.. all the same process .... with 6 workstations... well there could be an issue..

Be sure the documentation is exported so that can be imported if needed.

I have had to upload and import doc because someone had downloaded the same file from a laptop... the file that was originally there when I downloaded it didn't come up in the browse window.. had to create a new file and import.. not sure why.. but hey..

Be deliberate and you will be better off!!!
