The exact errormessage would be more explaining what the exact issue is; but my guess is:
You either have no rights to touch that file(eg you have no administrator rights for that station);
or, you are still running another RS program that also makes use of the activation file. All RS programs store their key in the same activation file; and although multiple programs can read that file, if it has to be modified because you move a key, no other program may use it.
Specifically I would check for RSLinx, which most often is started at logon to the workstation.

Are you using the original master disk? Check that the attributes are set on EVRSI.SYS to +R +S +H.

I have same os & rslogix 500 and everything works fine.
Maybe the problem you have is related to the floppy disk itself, why don't you try another floppy disk from a friend that doesn't have the activation on it??

1. You must have the original key disk.
2. RSLinx must be shut down on the computer you are using to transfer the key from your hard drive to the floppy disk drive.

Good luck.

Make sure that RSLinx is not running. Be aware that it could be running as a Win2K service and not as an app. Also use evmove32, not evmove. You should be able to move the activation file to either the master disk or to any other floppy, however if you use a disk other than the master, all activation files on the PC will be transfered out, not just the one for Logix500 (which is handy when upgrading the hard disk). If your computers are networked, you need not transfer the key to floppy, but you can transfer directly from computer to computer by mapping the drives. That is how I do it.

RS Linx must be shut down (RSI Directory Service plus Linx Service) first. Also the floppy could be corrupted. If so go to the RS site for re-activation.

Just call Rockwell's technical support. They deal with key problems all the time and will help you find out why your key is corrupted. Don't diddle with drives with keys installed on them.

I had a similir problem with an NT work-station. I never contacted RA (you should), but I solved my problem in about 20 minutes by moving the HD temporarily from the PC I wanted to move the activation to into the NT station. The activation moved smoothly from old HD to new HD (example from drive C: to D:) Then put the new HD back in destination PC and things were fine. Sounds hard, but went quite fast as these PC were easy to open.
