This kind of stuff, and everything else you can do with OPC, is covered in chapter 7 of the book "Software for Automation: Architecture, Integration, and Security". Preview, see contents, and buy online: www.isa.org/autosoftware
You may use U.C.ME-OPC to view detailed status on your cell phone. U.C.ME-OPC connects to any OPC server or SCADA/HMI that supports OPC server functionality.
U.C.ME-OPC maintain a WAP application that enables you to view detailed status including graphics and reach text.
You can also check out Route1.com ... a remote thin client that will allow you to see and interact with your SCADA as if you were there... and you don't have to re-invent the app or make any adjustments at all...
Been using it for 6 months... very cool
