SCM using industrial automation

Thread Starter

How effectively Supply chain Management can be carried out using industrial automation techniques?

Any reference would be appreciable?

Supply Chain Management - is a rather broad topic.

Are you referring to bar-coding ???
Industrial Automation are more robust and more open than most "Data Collection" systems.

Or are you referring to EDI functionality ??
Nope - most control companies don't have a clue about application interoperability.
Most businesses don't work on a common object model.

Are you referring to Sequencing / Process Optimization...
XML is coming on strong in both IA and at the supply chain.
Message queuing - should be ready in the upcoming year.

Please define EDI functionality. Are you using it in the context of translation between legacy systems? I have heard it used several times and
different companies seem to use the term in different ways .......
