I need advise on selecting the type of gas detectors for a laboratory. The laboratory is located in a safe area on a on-shore gas processing plant.

The purpose is to detect any gas ingress to the laboratory from outside and also during any laboratory tests.

 

First of all you need to figure out what gases/vapours you are looking for. I assume you will have one for explosive mixtures and perhaps another for toxic vapours.

Are you going to monitor the alarms with some form of control system--in which case you will likely have an alarm with an analog output--or just locally, in which case you might just have a relay output?

Once you figure that out you can call the instrument suppliers.

Q: Don't you have an instrument group looking after the plant? If so it would be a good idea to get them on board.
