Self-Cleaning Fiber Optic Cables

The company that I work for currently is using photoelectric sensors with fiber optic cables to sense the presence of paper. The cables, once covered with dust tend to give false readings. However, when the sensor's sensativity level is turned up high enough to combat the dust, then the sensor read through the paper.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep the fiber optics clean, (compressed air, fans, etc.) or other suggestions, I would appreciate the input.

Thanks.

Use 2 sensors
check them in the on state at the same time
check them in the off state at the same time

if in the off state one of the sensors is on then indicate a fault that they it needs to be cleaned. You can set it up so that it keeps running with the good one.

A proper self checking system would require 3 sensors the two good sensors could be used to identify the bad or dirty sensor.

I have seen compressed air utilized to address almost this very problem. In the scenario I am thinking of, compressed air was directed at the optics of some diffuse proximity photoelectric eyes to blow away accumulated tobacco "dust". A solenoid valve was used to turn on the air flow
periodically. The solenoid was actuated via an existing PLC control system (the same one that used the feedback from the PEs). Utilization
of air was gradually cut back until the minimum required frequency/pressure was achieved. The scheme worked well...

But therein lies the rub. Which one is "good" and which one is "not"? I would expand this idea such that when there is disagreement, use the air
blast to clean the probes. Or, use a fieldbus sensor (depending on price justification, ie if there is a fieldbus already on the machine). I know that for DeviceNet, banner sensors will send a "lens dirty" signal when the strength falls below a certain threshold. At that point, the air blast technique could be employed to clean the lensing.

The common solutions to your question have already been answered. An alternative approach is to prevent the dust from gathering on the fiber optic cable in the first place. If you have space then mounting the fiber at a further distance away from the dusty area would at least reduce the time period between cleaning. To acheive the same sensitivity at the further distance you might like to use a lens to focus the beam power into a smaller area. In any case, using a lens in a dusty environment is extremely recommended to penetrate the dust both acheiving longer distances and increased sensitivity/returned light.

Many industrial cleaning technology cleaning operations involve the usage of chemicals and equipment. Managers must make certain that the cleaning workforce is appropriately educated and that they may be acquainted with the dangers related to the performance of cleaning responsibilities in their specific work locations.

Risks ought to be managed in order that cleaners, and any other users of buildings, are kept secure and unfastened from the danger of injury. That is the reason industrial cleaning services near me are located and found so that multiple organizations benefit from their services.

These industrial cleaning professionals ensure that their job is inducted with care and professionalism that can only be achieved through years of experience.

Industrial Cleaning Technology - Personal protective device

Industrial Cleaning Equipment that involves Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may encompass uniforms, safety footwear, and system, consisting of gloves and goggles. Managers have to make certain that good enough Personal Protective Equipment PPE is issued to body of workers, that those staffs are trained in its use and are reminded of their responsibilities, including:

That PPE must simplest be used at work
The responsibility to apply PPE properly
The regular inspection of PPE.

Industrial Cleaning Companies - Safe working practices

Managers ought to make sure that a team of workers is skilled inside the use of the suit, for example, you can consider Stepladders and powered gadgets, including buffers and ground scrubbers. Staff needs to be endorsed to undertake safe operating practices

To use system only if they had been skilled or informed in its use
To lift materials and gadget properly
To comply with manufacturers’ or suppliers’ usage guidelines
Not to tamper with system if it is defective
Not to dam fire exits or staircases with gadget or waste
Not to go away trailing electrical leads on flooring
To use protection warning signs and symptoms The best example can be To warn people approximately slippery surfaces.

Industrial Cleaning Equipment - Slips, Trips, and Falls

Floor cleaning can create an enormous chance of slip and experience accidents, each to cleaning a group of workers and to other users of buildings. For example, clean floors left damp by means of a mop are probably to be very slippery until they dry out and trailing wires from a vacuum or buffing system can present a ride hazard.

Staff must keep in mind that warning signs or access prevention must be used even in the case of spot cleansing after spillages. Just because a moist patch is small does no longer mean that it does not present a slipping danger.

Cleaning staff ought to be advised to simplest wear appropriate shoes to work. All footwear ought to have a powerful grip and should be in proper condition, particularly while worn in regions such as kitchens and in dining areas wherein there can be an additional danger of spillages.
