We have got a 4.2 MW Steam Turbine Generator Set (Normal Speed 6400 RPM). I need to choose reliable and cheaper type of sensors for vibration measurement along with monitoring electronic cards.

Some vendors are suggesting contact less sensors while some are suggesting contact type. Second category argues that Contact type sensors are reliable, durable and comparatively cheaper, right now I use contact less type (Make Shinkawa and already obsolete.
Pl guide me for

1. Comparison of both types

2. Criteria for selection of each type

3. Claims regarding durability and reliability

Choosing the best type of measurement depends on some factors, including:

1-The frequency and amplitude of the vibration.

2-The type and size of transducer available.

3-The mass of the vibration structure.
