I recently came across two terms Analog Serial Communication and Digital Serial Communication.

Such thing exists?

My understand is that Serial communication such as:

Modbus RTU (RS 232, RS485)
Modbus TCP

Can someone share with me what is Analog Serial Communication and what is Digital Serial Communication?

Thanks.

technically, it is all analog (RS-232 uses voltage levels).

I suppose someone might have been making a distinction about current loops, frequency-shift modem signals, or even the way a 9600 baud modem is actually working at I think 1200 'baud', moving levels to result in 9600 bits per second.

Not sure it really matters.
