I have a limited amount of space in my system to facilitate the selection of Modbus serial parameters. Are there more often used sets of parameters, (baudrate, databits, stop-bits & parity), than others in Modbus RTU?
The 8-N-1 format, (8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit)
is very common, but not universal.
Baud rates do vary and should be selectable, if for no other reason than bench top testing might support 38K, but the 1000 meter run of field wiring only supports 9600.
