Single phase AC motor

Hi,

What if I change the capacitor to start a single phase AC motor for one that hasn't got the same specs?

Hi,

It depends on which specs you are talking about. The capacity should be somewhat similar i.e +/- 20%. If it's too small it will reduce the starting torque.

The voltage rating should be at least the same as line voltage, higher is better. If it's the type of motor that has a starting switch most of these will start without a capacitor (shorted). The capacitor is an accessory to improve starting torque.

A few more details would help.
