I'm in the market for new software for my Allen-Bradley processors. I have 500, 501, 502 and 503 processors. I run Win 98 and Win 2000 on my computers. Need to go on line with all processors and need to work with Win 98 and Win 2000. Any recommendations? Or precautionary measures I should take?

Really only have RSLogix500 as a package which will have RSLinx Lite. There is a RSLogix500 starter kit, check with your local AB guy on what it has. As you have SLC5/01, SLC5/02's and SLC500's, you will need to connect via the DH485 port (RJ45). If you have a notebook, use a PCMK (PCMCIA) card with the DH485 lead, otherwise look at a PKTx PCI card, or one of the third party devices. No cheap option here. The SLC5/03 can use a serial cable.

if your computer has a "native" serial port, you can use a 1747-PIC converter..

RSLogix 500 "starter" is the software you will need. the "full" package offers "online edition" , but the 5/01, 5/02 and 500 serie does not support such a feature....

other differences between the 2 versions of the software are not major ( in your case..) ...

a limited, free version exist, availlable on the web, but it's limited to 10 points I/O micrologix .... good for learning ....
