Software for Laptop and PC connection via parallel ports

I need to connect a laptop and a PC to transfer some files. I have not a net card for laptop, so I need to connect them via parallel port. I've got the cable for it, but the only software I have for doing this is Laplink. I've tried with the option to connect via parallel ports included within Windows but no success obtained. Does anybody knows any other software available for this other than Laplink? I've got a dos version of Laplink and so any file with a larger name over 8 characters is cutted to 8 ch.

Use the peer to peer network or direct cable connection feature found in windows 95 its quick and easy to set up. Just look in the help files and it will walk you through.

why don't you try with the sofware included with windows? It has an option called cable direct connection (or something like this). It works in 32 bits, in other words don't cut the size of the name files up to eight characters.

Linux has PLIP, which gives you a real network through the parallel port, but as far as I've heard it only works under Linux, DOS and Windows 3.11.

Linux can handle Windows-style long filenames, but it'd mean installing it on both computers.

Pablo,

You may use Direct Cable Connection which is a standard option of Windows
95/98/etc.
If you are using Windows 2000, just click on Network and Dial-Up Connections
in the Control Panel, click on Make New Connection, choose Connect directly
to another computer, and follow the rest instructions of the Network
Connection Wizard.

If both of the PCs are having Windows operating system, then DCC (Direct Cable
Connection) is the best way to exchange data. Normally problem comes in serial or parallel Cable connections. The following link will give detailed information
about the Cable and software configuration to use direct cable connection in
Windows.

hi,
you can use hyperterminal within windows. trouble is it will
transfer only one file at a time. and maximum transfer rates are limited to
115 kbps. use zmodem with crash recovery if on win98 else plain zmodem will
do. use a null modem cable with only connections to rx, tx and gnd. mail me
if u need any more clarifications.

Hi
If you are using the WIN95 try to shutdown the pc in the DOS mode then try the communication.
To avoid the 8 character size problem first make the zip(Try Winzip95.exe) of the required dir/file then transfer it.
You can try the serial connection also.
