i would like to find out the purpose of having a star to delta starter for an induction motor.

 

The purpose is to cut down on starting current and torque. Star to Delta will have approximately 60% less starting current and 33.3% less starting
torque then full-voltage starting.

Mainly to prevent a voltage sag on the output side of the distribution transformer. Its an old technology replaced by the soft start.

I have an electrical motor. I want to start SD
but Motor name plate this like;660vY/380VD

Can I start to SD this motor. We heve 380V net voltage end 3 phase 50 HZ. Is it possible?
