status port using Vb interfacing

I have a project in school about interfacing. And I dont no what to do. I know how to use the data port ( Out Val (&h378),"pin Value". But i dont know how to use the status port. Can somebody help me pls. by the way im using the parmon.exe to the test the program, and we are require to use Vb for the interfacing. thank you so much.
