we have a 13 MW steam turbine. i would like to know how measure the rotar and stator expansion in steam turbine. currently it is showing stator expansion 8.1mm and rotar expansion 0.71 mm. at steam turbine running with 8.5 MW.

so how exactly to measure these two readings.
please answer it.

The best thing to do would be to look at the drawings provided with the unit to determine where the shell (stator) expansion probe is mounted and how it's to be adjusted. You would most likely need to try to install a dial indicator of some type at that location, if possible, and while the unit was cold and in the "zero" position.

Personally, I don't know of a method to measure the rotOr expansion with the unit running. That's usually done with a proximity probe (as is the shell expansion) and unless the turbine manufacturer made some kind of special method to measure the expansion while running, the best thing would be to determine if the probe was set correctly when the unit is undergoing planned maintenance ("zeroing" the probe per the turbine manufacturer's instructions).

But doing either of these things with the unit running is probably very difficult if not impossible.
