System Obsolescence

We are given to understand that the Legacy System CS1000 is getting obsolete worldwide by next year. How authentic is this news as we are intending to procure the same.

the news seems to be quiet true. For the reason that when CS1000 was introduced it was with RIO cards (same as applicable for earlier Centum CS and later on CS3000). However since the last two and half years it is observed that only FIO cards are being pushed in the market with CS3000 and not the RIO cards. Also CS1000 and FIO cards do not go together. So CS1000 has only one family of IO cards i.e. RIO.

More over the new network based system introduced by Yokogawa also has the same FIO cards, but with a little bit of model no. changed. You can verify for your self the catalogs of FIO cards and the cards of the Stardom system.

Yokogawa has a tradition of having sold the old systems which are on the verge of obsolecense - e.g Micro XL was sold as late as in 2002!!!.

It is very much obvious that CS1000 is going to be discontinued soon - it was introduced in 1997. So it has already have had a life span of 8 years as on date.

suggest the wise choice would be to go for Emmerson Delta V or ABB AC800 F System for small applications.

I think AC 800 F [freelance] should also be obsolete now, it AC 800 M with extended automation software package, which is latest in the product range.

Till year 2010 this is bound to happen with all the DCS vendors.
