does anyone know where I can get something that will tell me the temperature in a tenant's apartment?

 

Go to your local super home mart and buy a wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer. they even have em at our local megalo-mart for about 29 bucks. How far away are you and how much data logging do you want to do??

 

There are simple retail devices--Oregon Instruments makes one that reads a remote sensor. Wireless, too.

eBay has several Allen-Bradley Micrologix PLCs (1000, 1200, ???) with analog input.

There are lots of ways to do it. Check out http://www.omega.com for Omega Engineering's catalog. Also, check with your lawyer to find out if you can do it, or if you need to get permission from your tenant to spy on them.
