Good Day, Listers:

I am working on a temperature control system. The temperature transmitters (thermocouples (J, I believe) to 4-20 mA) were ordered with a calibrated range of 0 to 100 degrees Celsius.

The required range is 0-2700 degrees Fahrenheit, or 32 to 1482 degrees C. We have a HART calibrator available, but it is such a large change that I
wonder if it is reasonable. Is it possible we will be attempting to calibrate beyond min/max limits in the transmitter? Or is this kind of adjustment typical?

I am off site temporarily and do not have the manufacturer/model handy, but it is available and
I will get it to continue my research.

Max for Continuous measurement with a Type J T/C is 700 Deg C>

 

That's a question you will have to ask the transmitter vendor. The answer is, "It depends."

J type thermocouple measure 0-700c normly but in short term it can handle -50 to 2000c .but dear ur desire measurement is enough high so ur described tx not in a position to measure high hotness bcaz it is beyound of tx url so u required another tx for ur needy thanks

 

I apologize for providing faulty information to those of you who kindly took the time to answer my question.

The TC is a K and we will set the max to 2190 degrees F (1200 degrees C). My question regarding the approx 10:1 increase in span on the transmitter was answered very well by Walt. "It depends." I use the same answer myself frequently. In this case, I will check the specs on the specific transmitter.

Try some of the K or N type thermocouples, though expensive it covers your range. K or N type ranges to 1200 deg c...

Nanda
