Testing V.F.D. using the Grid through twin set motor -Generator and output VFD

I've preformed factory Acceptance Test"FAT" in manufacturer factory for V.F.D
explanation of using the National Grid as (power Circulation Tank ), i,e. sucking the electrical power from the national grid to drive the motor through the V.F.D "goal of the test"

The question is: how it is possible for the asynchronous motor to act as generator? and provide power to the national Grid?
