I'd like to get some in-depth knowledge into the differences between thermocouple cables, extension cables and compensation cables. Advantages of one over the other and applications. I believe that extension cables and compensation cables are the same, and I'm aware of some of the points such as material composition and accuracy but would like some more concrete knowledge.

Any help will be appreciated.

 

Extension cables are made of the same materials as the associated
thermocouple pairs, but to a lower spec, and usually have a larger diameter.

Compensation cables use different materials that have compatible
emf-temperature characteristics over a limited temperature range.
