Hi Ken

Yeah, I caught that but there's not much about it. I have been watching the whole RT/Embedded scene fairly closely lately as I am planning an embedded project. Linux is racking up an impressive number and variety of wins, enough to scare Microsoft into a flurry of FUD and advertising. In EETimes there was a large insert in the MS style, trying to look like an objective report, but with no mention of the fact that MS is a bit player and getting smaller. There's a clear acquisition fever going around. With the Transmeta stuff poised to become THE embedded
"post-pc" processor, the noise level is at an unprecedented level. The uCsimm people at RTControl got bought, Zentropix got bought, Cygnus got bought , and half a dozen new embedded linux distros have showed up in the past two weeks. Embedded Linux is so hot right now that it's hard to keep up with it all.

It is really a good idea for the project to watch these developments as they are all going in the right direction for the LPLC.

Regards

HI all, I should say that I start my new job with Zentropix April 1st. ( !!! )
We are going to really push Linux in the Embedded RT Field. A number of companies have grasped the subtle benefits of true Open Source development.
We are going to have a beneficial and intersting time over the next few months. Funnily enough , we welcome the arrival of more players in the field. I am delighted with the approach taken by TimeSys. They do need to have a "give back" policy. You should also look at the LXRT work inside the latest RTAI. (http://www.rtai.org)
This allows true real time scheduling and deadline keeping from INSIDE user space.
I think this is just what the LPLC team were looking for.

I'm busy moving / changing jobs right now but I'm still lurking on the list.

Phil Wilshire

Hi Phil,

I am very interested in the LXRT work inside the RTAI also. I've downloaded the rtai-x.xb.tgz (experimental with hard real time in user space) a few weeks ago and have loaded it on one of my computers. I am playing with it as time allows... Much more powerful and easier to use than KURT for user space real time...
