Using a UV lamp

Hello friends,

Can we use a lamp that emits UV to test a flame detector? If it is possible, what kind of lamp can we use?

If you are testing a fire detection device then you have to use a UV test lamp supplied or recommended by the detector vendor. The reason for this is that the UV detectors are calibrated devices and the lamp needs to emit UV at specific wavelengths to effectively test the device. If the vendor cannot supply or recommend, say because the vendor no longer exists, then you need to consider replacing the detectors.

Europe and North America and I'm assuming therefore other regions have some form of legal requirement for effective periodic testing of fire detectors and therefore if you cannot do it you or your operator may not be meeting your legal obligations.

If it is furnace flame detector will you get torches with UV lamp or simply can we use even match stick

Please don't use a lit matchstick for anything other than a quick and dirty test. Read the vendors manual, if its not available track the vendor down and ask, if they are out of business consider, seriously, replacement.
