I am trying to set up pairs of new USR Courier Modems (3453C) on leased lines between an InTouch PC and remote PLC's (RS232 Serial Ports).

I am replacing older USR Courier Modems which have worked fine for years but have started to fail. I cannot get the new USR Modems to link up as simple RS232 conduits, even when I follow the USR instructions on their website and from their tech support.

 

Had a similar problem a few times, the newer modems say they support leased lines, but have problems with the modulation of different leased lines. We ended up going with "real" leased line modems from ICL (http://www.iclinks.com) you can adjust the gain based upon the line characteristics.

Is there any solution to make the new USR modems work as the old ones or is there only one option... to use another brand of modems? The old ones performed fine....
