VF curve setting in VVVF inverter

Hi, dear all,

I have one question about the VF curve setting. In the MM430 (Siemens inverter) user manual, there are many choices about VF curve setting such as linear VF operation, square VF operation, etc. In my opinion, by linear VF curve, we can keep the air-gap magnetic field constant, but what is the meaning of square VF operation? Can it also keep the field constant? And would you please teach me what is their application area? Thank you so much!

Best regards!

I am not familiar with the Siemens drive. However, I would suspect that linear VF refers to constant torque application (i.e. constant V/Hz) while square VF would refer to variable torque applications such as pumps and fans, where the torque requirement is a squared function of speed.
