I am an assistant editor at the Thomas Publishing Co. I need to know VFD stands for. While there are numerous companies on the internet who offer VFD products or alternatives, I can't find exactly what the three letters stand for, and I need to know badly. I'm not sure if this is the proper venue for my query, but if anyone can help and also possibly give me a URL to verify the definition, I would greatly appreciate it. Sincerely, Tim Fox [email protected]

VFD stands for "Variable Frequency Drive" It is a method of speed control for AC motors that takes 60Hz 3 Phase power and converts it to a user defined frequency. Motor speed is a function of frequency. Baldor.com will give you more information

In my experience, VFD almost always refers to a variable frequency drive which is an adjustable speed drive using ac motors
