What is Power Factor Correction?

ıf you need more information about what is power factor correction, you can find it in this essay. The technique of increasing power with using power supplier is known as power factor correction. If you are not using power factor correction technique while changing power supplies, it can cause short and high-magnitude pulses. By the power factor correction way, you can compress the pulses. There are two well-known techniques which is called active and passive. In other words, you can reduce your electricity bill by sustaining your power consumption with using power factor correction technique. This technology allows costumer to save up his money and his reactive power. Besides, if your power factor is in a good level, that means the strain on your electrical substructure will be reduced. In conclusion, the definition of what is power factor correction is technological improvement which allows you to increase power by using power supplies.

What is Power Factor?

Power factor is defined as a power system which is the combination of real power and apparent power. Real power presents the capacity of the immediate voltage and current of the electricity. Apparent power is known as direct current and voltage. Briefly, power factor is a unit less number in alternating current circuits. It can be modified a piece of equipment or electricity usage for a construction. By that means it represents the ratio between real and apparent power. In a house you can see a fee of amount of kWh’s used. But in industrial cases it changes the reason of it power consumption becomes too much. That’s why you can rearrange it by using power factor correction technique.

For those interested in a simple explanation of Power Factor, which I use for my students:
o A quarterback can throw a short-pass like a bullet, on a straight line to the receiver.
o But for long distances he must throw it in an arc.
o "Real" Power is the bullet.
o "Reactive" Power is the height of the arc.

Ps: Anyone interested in a very simple illustration of PFC ?

As promised the PFC illustration is attached.
In this case the PFC it's just a capacitor. Simply put, it's Capacitive-Reactance offsets the Inductive-Reactance supplied by the Utility to its customer! The result is an improved power-factor, so that any PF cost-penalty imposed by the utility is reduced!
