What is the sin-cos encoder phase angle?

Hi all,

Just a question about a rotative encoder used in my brushless motor.

What is the "sin-cos phase angle"? Maybe it's an angle between rotor and stator? How can I get this angle without moving the motor?

Thanks a lot!

Hello,

Are you talking about phasing the motor to find commutation? Either you need Hall switches, an absolute encoder, or a manual phasing algorithm (usually built into motion control or drive) to commutate the motor.

I don't know. The motor moves and a sin-cos phase angle appears on my motion control browser. I think it's that you talk about.
