Hello,
My name is Ron Ricci. I am a hard core "C" programmer - 20 years plus, hard core PLC programmer - 12 years plus. I know that if I ever have any spare time I could contribute something valuable to this. I have been involved with some OPC (OLE for process control) and I have written PLC interfaces and gateways for all types of applications. I've worked with AB SLIC 500, Siemens 505/S5, and GE series 6. I have gone as far as reverse Engineering some private PLC protocols so I can write new GUI/HMI stuff for PLCs. Right now I am learning as much as I can about C#, the new .NET framework from Microsoft and some LINUX application programming.

What is this project about ? Am I needed ? I have a library full of UNIX and LINUX books and I am looking to learn more and get involved in the LINUX community in some manner. My background in process control may be useful to you. Your project sounds interesting but I would like to
know more about what the goals are RE the end use of the product.
Thanks,
Ron Ricci

Welcome Ronald

Yes, we need you! Check out the website www.linuxplc.org for what we are about. Anything you don't find, ask.

Gotta go, it's late.

Hello - I thought Curt would reply pretty quickly :) but as he was in a hurry I guess I'll follow up on his...

Probably the most comprehensive intro is the recent ELJ article http://www.linuxplc.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/~checkout~/doc/lplc-article.txt

Yup.

To quote from the side-bar of the above article, apart from getting a PLC package we can really call our own, really understand, and use with the
kind of confidence that only comes with full understanding, we will be doing our part as loyal minions in Linus' quest for world domination.

As far as application is concerned, I guess it's more of an automation package than a PLC as such, but somehow the PLC label stuck. Maybe we'll
manage to lose it at some stage. Already there's a Tcl interface, which is more than most PLCs can do, and it's early days yet.
