WinCC 2005 Alarm Trigger

Why does the alarm trigger tag in WinCC 2005 Flexible for the TP177 Micro have to be a word? I tried to set the data type as byte so that the addressing I use to trigger alarms in WinCC is the same as that used in the PLC. But WinCC does not allow this, it will only allow words with 16 bits. This makes addressing a bit more confusing.

I would like to address the trigger tag and bit as V3.2 instead of VW and the bit. I am confused to how the bit numbers works when using words. The first 8 bits seem to have the bit numbers of 8 - 15 and the second 8 as 0 - 7. This is confusing me. Can anyone help?

Thanks.
