How would I go about locating someone to to write Modbus to Moscad applications for Motorola IRRinet Ace, and what would I look for to make sure the coder's skills and experience were right for the task.

Sounds more like you are looking for an HMI/SCADA developer since the
hardware supports OPC as well as MODBUS. Once the local registers are
identified, it becomes an issue of screen and database design.

And yes I can do that, but I'm sure there are those in Oz that can help as well..

I don't know specifically about the IRRinet, but the Ace/Moscad has Modbus Master/Slave drivers that can be loaded into the unit. I have done that many times and it works just fine (you follow the configuration manual).

Are you talking about C code that can be loaded into the Ace (the C toolkit)? I have done that and it is definitely a bit more tricky. You need to be familiar with Cygwin, linux, C coding and the Ace/Moscad platform.
