GE Mark V TMR to Simplex

Dear all,

We have Mark V TMR system in our site and we want to make it become simplex system. Any experiences about changing TMR to Simplex?

Thanks

>Why???

Because there would be limited spare parts in <S>, <T> and <QD1>, AND if they can't get a READY TO START because of a problem with one of the TMR components they could start as a SIMPLEX.

I'm not going to go into the details of every step, but here's the outline of what has to happen. You need a SIMPLEX FORMAT file for BOTH <R> and <C>. You need to loop <R>'s IONET from <X> to <Y> <Z> to the TCDA in <QD1>. There are a couple of oddities with <Q> I/O (in IO.ASG) that would need sorting out. And, I believe there is some change that has to be made to MSTR_SEQ.CFG, and possibly CONFIG.DAT. MK5MAKE, EEPROM DOWN USER (after EEPROM DOWN FORMAT and a hard re-boot of both <R> and<C> (and another hard re-boot of both processors, starting with <R>). I think the DENET from <R> to <S> would also have to be disconnected and there might be some jumpers in <R> that would have to be reset, and maybe some jumpers in <P>, too, and that should be about it.

OH--forgot there would have to be some servo wiring changes, and LVDT wiring changes, too. And probably some ribbon cables to <S> and <T>
would have to be made. And I believe there would have to be some ribbon cable changes from the TBQA to the TCQA (for T/CS).

Finally, to have true protection for a GT, there would have to be some I/O moved from <R> to <C>, and some logic changes.

Not impossible. Not easy. Not recommended, especially if the unit is a GT with DLN combustors.

Never heard of it being tried, except in a lab setting without a real turbine and I/O.

Best of luck.

>>Why???

It's a Panel for training in Lab. Like CSA said, we need to make additional spare so we want to remove <S> <T> into stock.
We only use IO for servo testing. And other IO is just for testing as needed.

CSA,
So what should we do in cable that has daisy chain to <R> <S> <T> ,such as VARC ?
And also JL cable that connect from <X><Y><Z> ?
Are there any GE document that explain about Simplex system?

Thanks

I believe VARC is the DENET.

Not familiar with that one, and I don't have access to my Mark V manuals at this writing.

Not that I'm aware of.
